Daily life, maternity leave edition

23 Aug

We have been some of the most boring people on the planet for the past month. Coco is 4 weeks old today, and in the time we’ve had without family in visiting, GP and I have done a great deal of nothing. We’ve watched a lot of movies and TV (thank you, Netflix instant queue!), taken some naps, and cuddled with Coco.

Okay, to be perfectly honest we have made a couple of outings. Three, really. We went up to GP’s school twice (check AshPags’s blog for a pic and to see the beautiful baby blanket she made Coco), and I took Coco down to my workplace once for a lab luncheon to introduce her to people around there. Other than that, the only place we’ve really gone is the grocery store. I think, though, that’s the point of maternity leave. To do as much nothing as you can until you have to go back to work!

Of course, we’ve taken lots of pictures! If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know I don’t really post pictures of my face; I’m doing my best to apply that to Coco, too, so the pictures are somewhat limited. Still, we’ve captured some good ones.

Babies are super cute when they sleep.

One day when my family was still here we trekked down to the local park to play. We had to go early in the morning when it was still “cool” out, meaning below 95 degrees. With a little foresight, we took our nice camera and thought it’d be a good place to get some cute Coco and family pictures.

And now some random pictures from the past few weeks:

Froggy here stayed on our windshield for several miles when we drove to the pediatrician’s office for Coco’s first checkup.

There is an albino alligator at the Audobon Aquarium in New Orleans (we went when my family was in town to visit). I didn’t even know that was a possibility! I was telling a friend about it yesterday, and she pointed out that an albino alligator would definitely be easier to see if you were, for some reason, strolling around in the bayou. Anyway, the Audobon Aquarium of the Americas is a really cool aquarium if you’re ever in the area and need something to do. Also, it has great air conditioning. Very important in Louisiana this time of year.

In addition to being home to alligators and frogs (lots of frogs!), we have a plethora of bugs that hang out on our front porch. Not that alligators live on our front porch. Frogs and bugs, yes. Alligators, no. Just clearing that up.

For now, Coco’s asleep and I have some things to accomplish. Like sending out birth announcements!

I love the cat napping with Coco.
Heat is definitely a factor in what you do outside. Here in Texas it was 105 yesterday!
    Love all of you!

I like the one of the cat and Coco, too.
And lots of other interesting critters in LA! We saw an albino alligator at the Dallas Zoo this summer….they called it a ghost alligator because it looks so eerie in the water at night.
Glad you’ve had lots of boring, relaxing time!

Aw, she is beautiful. I love the pic of you two together. I wish you still lived close enough for me to drop by for baby snuggles!
