Maltese Shawl Complete

23 Jun

Friday night I blocked the Maltese Shawl, and today GP acted as stylist and photographer for a few pictures.

The lace is so open and airy, I really love how it looks.

Despite how much of it there is, it is warm but not too warm. It definitely makes a very wonderful spring and summer wrap.

Pattern Details:
Pattern: Maltese Shawl from Victorian Lace Today
Yarn: Crystal Palace Kid Merino, Fern colorway. Just over 5 balls were used
Needles: size 7 Crystal Palace Bamboo circs
Start Date: Sometime in February 2007, worked on sporadically until the last few months
Finish Date: June 20, 2007

So just how large is this monstrosity? Keep in mind that I am 5″8′ tall. I can wrap it around me 3 full times! The pattern states that it should be around 93 inches long, but I’m pretty sure it came out even longer than that after a wash. I didn’t stretch it lengthwise at all and only fairly aggressively blocked it width-wise. All in all, I’m extremely happy with the turn out. Still, if I were to do it again, I would drop a few repeats. It really is unnecessarily large!

It’s beautiful! I’m so glad you finished it in time to wear it in Italy. How long did it take you to pin it out?
